Poetry In Motion

Having just missed the cut for Torino, N instead settles for a day of skate skiing at Chapin Forest. Yes, Ohio. She's like liquid poetry on skate skis -- graceful, athletic, and efficient. Master on the other hand is like a stick man auditioning for the role of Gumby. People stop when N effortlessly glides pass them on an 10% grade, ready to break into applause. That is until they see Master far behind clomping up the hill on his skis like something out of the Swamp Thing. At which point their feelings turn to pity.

   Oh well, challenge breeds character.

Incidentally, it has come to my attention that there is some confusion regarding Master's goals in school. Friends and family have asked what one does when they graduate with a degree in Pharmacy. Master can't graduate from Case with a degree in Pharmacy because Case doesn't have a Pharmacy school. Pharmacy and Pharmacology are totally different. A degree in Pharmacy is called a PHARM-D degree, and it is usually (though not always) equivalent to a Masters degree. PHARM-Ds typically become pharmacists. Pharmacology, on the other hand, is a PhD track program in biomedical science:

Pharmacology includes the study of existing drugs, including their sources, chemistry, production and uses in treating diseases and side effects.

After obtaining their PhD, pharmacologists usually continue their education at the post doctorate level, and from there they can continue to do research in academia, or move to private industry where they are employed in efforts involving new drug discovery. Master is likely headed in the latter direction, unless his skiing improves dramatically, in which case there's always the 2010 Olympics!
