Relief On Relief
Hot captures it quite nicely. Pretty much like last year at this time. (Can you believe we've been here a year already?). But ninety degrees and bluesky didn't keep Mom and Master from cycling down to the lakefront to take in the Tall Ships display. Only to discover they wanted ten bucks a piece to see a Schooner up close. All they had between them was $10, and after what would be twenty miles of riding something cold 'n wet sounded a whole lot better than squishing onto the hot deck of Schooner with hundreds of sweaty Ohioans. And in far too many cases their overfed children, too.
Jumping into the lake would bring no relief seeing as the water temperature was seventy four degrees. Better for taking a bath. At least when it got hot in Alaska, and it did occasionally, you could seek relief on relief. I'm talking about mountains, a place where you could enjoy a day hike and discover snow as late as June, sometimes even July.
Peak III, Chugach Mountains, Anchorage, June 7th, 2006
There is topography in Ohio, but nothing high enough to support snow in July. Maybe five hundred million years ago in Southeastern Ohio, but not ever in Cleveland. Then again five hundred million years ago there was no Cleveland, or Lake Erie, or Starbucks with iced mochas on sweltering hot summer days.
How anything could have evolved without coffee remains an insolvable mystery.
